How 21st Century Handles Pre-Existing Conditions
On 21st Century's Visitors to Canada plans, pre-existing condition treatment depends entirely on the tier. The Basic and Standard tiers do not cover pre-existing conditions at all. Only the Enhanced tier offers the possibility of stable pre-existing condition coverage, through a 180-day "Unstable Condition" test.
Access to Enhanced's pre-existing review also depends on age. Applicants under 60 generally have automatic access to the review. Applicants 60 to 85 must complete a Medical Declaration — and a single "Yes" answer can mean the applicant is treated as Standard (blanket exclusion) for pre-existing conditions, even on Enhanced. 21st Century's plans are underwritten by Manulife and First North American.
What "Stable" Means
Most pre-existing coverage depends on a condition being "stable" for a set window before the trip — generally no new diagnosis, no medication or dosage change, no new or worsening symptoms, no pending tests, and no hospitalization. Our Pre-Existing Conditions Guide explains the full stability test; this page covers how 21st Century specifically applies it.
What to Confirm With 21st Century
- Which tier is being quoted — only Enhanced offers any pre-existing review.
- For applicants 60 to 85, how the Medical Declaration answers affect Enhanced access.
- Whether the condition meets the 180-day "Unstable Condition" test on Enhanced.
- Whether the selected coverage amount and term meet the current Super Visa requirement.
