How TuGo Handles Pre-Existing Conditions
TuGo's standard Visitors to Canada plan uses an age-banded stability table — the older the applicant, the longer a pre-existing condition must have been stable before the effective date. A condition that meets the applicable window may be eligible for coverage; one that does not is excluded.
For applicants age 79 or under, TuGo also offers an optional Unstable Pre-Existing Medical Condition add-on for conditions that do not meet the standard table. Timing matters too: whether the policy is bought before or after arrival can affect which rules apply, so confirm the timing with our advisor.

What "Stable" Means
Most pre-existing coverage depends on a condition being "stable" for a set window before the trip — generally no new diagnosis, no medication or dosage change, no new or worsening symptoms, no pending tests, and no hospitalization. Our Pre-Existing Conditions Guide explains the full stability test; this page covers how TuGo specifically applies it.
What to Confirm With TuGo
- The stability window for your parent's exact age band (90, 120, 180, or 365 days).
- Whether the optional Unstable Pre-Existing add-on is needed and the applicant is age 79 or under.
- Whether the policy is bought before or after arrival, which can affect how the rules apply.
- Whether complications of the main condition are covered or excluded.
